Theme ~ Diptych

Kathy picked the theme for this week:  Diptych.  Basically, this is a composition of two images which are related to each other in some way, and which can tell a story.  Here are my diptychs, starting with my header image:

Moser Tower and Millenium Carillon, Naperville, Illinois.

Personally, I think the tower is a monstrosity--our family calls it the Tower of Sauron (for you Lord of the Rings aficionados)--but it houses a carillon that plays at scheduled times throughout the day, and you can also climb to the top.  The views are phenomenal, which is the main reason I do like the tower.  Read about it here.

I chose this set of images because I love the lines that are created within the images--first vertical then horizontal and curved.  I also love that the colors blend so well between the images, and that there's a balance between the vertical first image, and the horizontal orientation of the second.  And there you have my reasons.  :)

On to the rest, with simple captions because hopefully the images tell their own stories!

Team Celebration | Naperville, IL Event Photographer

I unofficially became the team photographer for Alpha Omega Math Club.  :)

Because of that, I got to take pictures of the awards ceremony held after the ICTM State Competition. The students had a great year, and really enjoyed the friendships, math, competitions, and celebrations.  Enjoy these images of awards and celebration!

Project 2012 -- Week 26

Project 2012 -- Week 26

Welcome to my Project 2012 weekly post!  I've stopped including the Linky section as of today, and I've decided to just share my own favorites.  If you're doing a project, leave a comment so I can visit your blog and see your images!

Last week was an activity-filled week.  Sunday was busy, first with a church service, then a special baptism service.  Our Danny was baptized.  :)

Then we attended the open house for a dear friend's daughter's homeschool high school graduation.  I captured this sweet shot right at the beginning, then put my camera away to enjoy fellowship and conversation.

Thursday reached 100+ degrees!  It was a day to stay indoors in the air conditioning.  We drank lots of water, too!

Here's what came through Friday morning (below).  We hadn't had rain in at least a month, so it was appreciated, even though a bit stormy.

In preparation for Fernando's birthday, I made a couple of pies.

We took our guys to Friday Frisbee.  It's so nice to see adults playing right alongside the kids.  Mr. Storm (below, orange shirt) can sure hold his own with them!

I love the fact that our sweet Joseph gets to play.  The other kids seem to naturally include him, and this warms our hearts.  :)

My Week 20 Photos

Last week consisted of flowers and fried chicken, friends and fun.  Here are my images with their stories:

The guys worked all afternoon digging, shoveling, loading, dumping, planting, covering, and watering.  Here is the end result:

Time for dinner!  I made this oven-fried chicken one night when I had my camera out.  :)  Recipe to come soon.

Later in the week, as Danny, Jacob, and I planted onions in my front yard flower garden (I ran out of room in my veggie garden!), I noticed the beard tongue was abuzz with honeybees.  I captured this guy on one of the blooms.

We ended the week by attending Jacob's graduation from Joliet Junior College.  He, along with his friend Bryan, obtained their Associates degrees.  As they exited the auditorium during the processional, Bryan gave us a glimpse of what he was feeling inside.  I love the happiness on his face!  (Congratulations, Lori!)

They had a screen set up in the reception area for picture-taking.  We waited until many of the graduates and families left, and then the maintenance guy waited patiently for us to take a gazillion photos.  :)

My Week 18 Photos

I took a ton of photos this past week!  I had such a hard time choosing my favorites.  I decided to share a sample of what we did all week long.

First of all, the guys worked in my garden, laying down newspaper and covering it with grass.  We're trying to get all the grassy pathways covered up so no one has to weed-whack the garden area.  It's no fun, according to my young men, and I totally agree with them.

We scared Mr. and Mrs. Mallard out of our pool when we went out back, and I caught them waiting on the neighbor's roof.

Danny was inducted into the Phi Theta Kappa National Honor Society (for two-year colleges) one evening last week, and my parents attended the ceremony with us.  :)

Danny drove me to The Growing Place, a nursery I'd never been to but had to now out of necessity--my favorite local nursery went out of business.  This new nursery did not disappoint; the below photo is a teeny-tiny part of the entire place.  It was huge and they carried all sorts of flowers, vegetables, and herbs, plus trees, bushes, and other landscaping material.  I had time constraints and didn't spend a lot of time there, but I'm definitely going back!

I bought just a few items to supplement the vegetable order I placed with my friend Becki.  I got some onion sets, rosemary, and cilantro, and some bush bean seeds.  I also splurged and got a little pack of marigolds to plant around my bush beans.

I'm so excited about planting my veggie garden this year!  I was able to quickly plan out what to plant where.  Now, I just have to wait for a sunny afternoon and guys to help work in the compost.  That's a post for next week.  :)
