Theme ~ Silhouette

Chosen by Kathy.

Silhouette, different from shadow:  The dark shape and outline of someone or something visible against a lighter background.  Here is the image I chose for my header:

I took this shot purposefully; I was compiling a photo book for my parents' 50th anniversary, to be presented to them at Christmas, and I wanted an image that would decorate the back cover, and also be featured in the book.  While up at Lake Bonaparte on vacation, and while shooting the sunset (as I typically do every night up there!), I asked them to pose for me, just for fun.  There's a little bit of chromatic aberration (the purple haze around my mom's head) due to shooting into the light source, but otherwise it's a beautiful image and looks amazing in their photo book.

Below are a few more images for this week's theme of silhouette.

At my friend's son's Wisconsin farmhouse.

Palm trees in Vero Beach, Florida.

I took this last one for a photography class in which we were assigned to shoot in front light, side light, and back light.  Jacob and Thomas trekked along with me to shoot in back light, and while they goofed off in front of the setting sun, I snapped this image.  They were laughing and having a good time, and this image is a great portrayal their camaraderie and brotherhood.

That's it for this week!

My Week 20 Photos

Last week consisted of flowers and fried chicken, friends and fun.  Here are my images with their stories:

The guys worked all afternoon digging, shoveling, loading, dumping, planting, covering, and watering.  Here is the end result:

Off to my front yard garden and the happy daisies blooming in the sun.

Time for dinner!  I made this oven-fried chicken one night when I had my camera out.  :)  Recipe to come soon.

Later in the week, as Danny, Jacob, and I planted onions in my front yard flower garden (I ran out of room in my veggie garden!), I noticed the beard tongue was abuzz with honeybees.  I captured this guy on one of the blooms.

I love this dreamy photo of my front yard garden.

We ended the week by attending Jacob's graduation from Joliet Junior College.  He, along with his friend Bryan, obtained their Associates degrees.  As they exited the auditorium during the processional, Bryan gave us a glimpse of what he was feeling inside.  I love the happiness on his face!  (Congratulations, Lori!)

[139] Happy graduate

They had a screen set up in the reception area for picture-taking.  We waited until many of the graduates and families left, and then the maintenance guy waited patiently for us to take a gazillion photos.  :)

2010 In Review -- Portraits and Candids

Since my professional photography business is still in its infancy, I don't have a full year of images to look back on.  But I would like to post some of my favorite images from the year, of portraits and candid shots.

I'm grateful to the Lord for pushing me through the door into this photography business!  It has been a privilege and an honor to photograph those who've hired me this year.  I'm humbled that they (you!) esteem my work enough to want me to capture their own families, and children, and events.  Enjoy these images with me as I look back on 2010!

Though this was from 2009, it is one of my favorites!

Growing Up

I wanted to share these candid photos, taken  on Thanksgiving.  What a great day to be thankful for young men growing up strong in the Lord!  Enjoy these two.

In Spirit and By Blood

These two young men are brothers by blood, but also in spirit.  They are both Christians, following the Lord with their whole hearts.

The younger brother, Jacob, has been such a blessing to the older, Joseph, who has autism.  Jacob truly is his brother's keeper, and both are blessed in their brotherhood.

The Lord could not have chosen better brothers for each other.

Saturday Sightings -- Brothers

Please click on Mrs. M's button above to visit her blog,
to view interesting photos, and to participate with us!

I'm sorry I don't have "I spotted this while out..." photos!  I'm simply sharing from my collection.  I do have images on my camera that I need to download--maybe today if I can grab a few minutes while preparing for guests this evening!  Anyway, even though the below photo is from a photo session, they are my sons, and I feel that this photo embodies who they are as a twosome.

Joseph, the older brother (bottom left), is autistic.  Jacob has always had Joseph with him, and has become his guardian and protector.  They love each other.  Thanks for letting me share this today!

~~Awesome Twosome~~

I figure if I can photograph my own children, I can photograph anyone.  There's no experience like cajoling unwilling subjects to smile, even when the sun is still in their eyes and Why is Mom making us do this?

  1. We need family pictures (to come soon)
  2. We need individual portraits
  3. Any experience that I can garner is valuable
  4. Dad says so

That settles it.  Reluctant or not, I love my boys and these two created an interesting, colorful photo shoot.  Enjoy!
