It's time for the Weekly Header Challenge!

Theme ~ Going Strong

Chosen by All of Us.

For this week's theme, I chose my family, since we're all going strong.  And my guys are strong.  'Nuff said.  Here's the image I used for my header.  At a wedding, I took the camera that doesn't work with my remote shutter release (of course), so I adjusted all the settings, propped it on a bench and used the 10-second timer.  Danny pressed the shutter than ran into the frame because I wasn't about to press it and run and jump into my guys' arms!

Here are some other things are are going strong.

My dad at age 84!

Danny, who graduated from college and just landed a job.

These flowers were growing strong, in profusion.

These two old vehicles, at 500,000+ and almost 100,000+ miles, are both still going strong!

The White Sox were going strong by winning their game.

My garden is going strong.

Alpine strawberries, going strong.

Finally--fireworks from a few days ago were definitely going strong!

The title I've given my tale is...

Epilog.

Fernando recently drove Purple to North Carolina for repairs, and flew home.  We're now waiting to hear about permanent employment with this company; meanwhile, we're exploring new sources of income.  (The continuing story is over on our family blog, if you care to click on over; here is the most recent post with all the details!)

My Week 18 Photos

I took a ton of photos this past week!  I had such a hard time choosing my favorites.  I decided to share a sample of what we did all week long.

First of all, the guys worked in my garden, laying down newspaper and covering it with grass.  We're trying to get all the grassy pathways covered up so no one has to weed-whack the garden area.  It's no fun, according to my young men, and I totally agree with them.

We scared Mr. and Mrs. Mallard out of our pool when we went out back, and I caught them waiting on the neighbor's roof.

 [120] Ducks on the roof

Lots of rain last week meant lots of neat after-the-rain photos!  Below are two of my favorites.

[121] Coral bells after the rain

[122] Almost time to bloom

Danny was inducted into the Phi Theta Kappa National Honor Society (for two-year colleges) one evening last week, and my parents attended the ceremony with us.  :)

Danny drove me to The Growing Place, a nursery I'd never been to but had to now out of necessity--my favorite local nursery went out of business.  This new nursery did not disappoint; the below photo is a teeny-tiny part of the entire place.  It was huge and they carried all sorts of flowers, vegetables, and herbs, plus trees, bushes, and other landscaping material.  I had time constraints and didn't spend a lot of time there, but I'm definitely going back!

[124] The Growing Place

I bought just a few items to supplement the vegetable order I placed with my friend Becki.  I got some onion sets, rosemary, and cilantro, and some bush bean seeds.  I also splurged and got a little pack of marigolds to plant around my bush beans.

[125] Goodies to plant

I'm so excited about planting my veggie garden this year!  I was able to quickly plan out what to plant where.  Now, I just have to wait for a sunny afternoon and guys to help work in the compost.  That's a post for next week.  :)

It Must Come Out!

October 9, Sunday, The Lord's Day.  Lake Bonaparte, upstate New York.

A quick post about another ritual which was brand-new to me--the "taking out" of my dad's Cadillac from the lake.  This is a family-and-friend effort, with most pitching in to help, and the rest running around taking pictures as the boat is removed from the lake for the winter.  My dad's isn't the only boat removed, but I'll save that for another post!

Apparently, in years past, the group devised a system of hefting the boat out onto logs, then pushing the boat along the logs, with people grabbing a log from behind and running it around to the front as they went along.  I wish I could've seen that.  This year's advanced version of boat removal is due to our superior human ingenuity and intelligence.  ;)

Al drove the ATV, pulling the boat around the side of Jackson cottage #1...

...and up the driveway of Jackson cottage #2.

It takes a lot of people to get that little boat into my dad's shed!

The beloved Cadillac sits, protected and patiently waiting until next spring.

Many hands make light work.

Aaaand...speaking of hands (I had to tie in a Bible verse somehow!):

O clap your hands, all peoples;
Shout to God with the voice of joy!
Psalm 47:1 NASB
