Theme ~ Strange Photos

Chosen by Tom.

Here is the image I used for this week’s theme:

Tortilla chips, stuck together.

And, more proof that I take strange photos...

Danny lying down in the grass, because...??  No idea why I took this...

We took home two Christmas trees...and Danny's head.

Warm homemade granola, when combined with cold milk, clumps together.

Fernando calls this his "gum app."

I bet you have some strange photos stored somewhere, too!

Weekly Header Challenge -- Elections

Theme ~ Elections

Chosen by Lew.

What a most interesting and fascinating election we just had...

Here is the image I used for my header:  my second son Jake voting.  I stood way off to the side and used a telephoto lens so as not to disturb other voters.  Although it's illegal to photograph your ballot, it it not illegal (in my state) to bring a camera into the polling place--but you have to be respectful of judges and their wishes!

Here is a "spring" photo getting ready for primaries--our signs were buried in snow!

An old photo; pardon the watermark...

A sample ballot, unmarked--not illegal!

My third son Danny voting in his first election.

And, my fourth son Thomas voting in his first election.  The handicapped booth was the only one open, and they asked if he didn't mind using it.

I'm so thankful that we have the right and the privilege of going into the voting booth and letting our vote be heard.  I'm thankful that I'm not under duress to vote for any particular candidate, and I'm thankful that no matter what anyone says, my vote is never wasted if I've voted my conscience before God!

Weekly Header Challenge -- Comfortable

Theme ~ Comfortable

Chosen by me.

I chose this theme several months ago, without realizing how challenging it would be to find photos that fit.  I did have one perfect one, though, and it's this image below of my cousin's dog Tucker.  He was super comfortable dozing under the table as our summer family-and-friends-sort-of-reunion party got underway at my beloved Lake Bonaparte.

Here is my selection of images depicting comfortable...

Relaxing at the dock.

Fernando took this of me, comfortable in my chair at Winter Bay.

Never sleep on vacation--family rule is to take a photo.  This is my brother on our boat cruise.

Waiting for the Chicago Air & Water Show to get underway.

Thanks for visiting!!

Weekly Header Challenge -- Through the Open Door

It's time for the Weekly Header Challenge!

Theme ~ Through the Open Door/Gate

Chosen by Mac.

My photos tell the story of what I saw through our open front door a few weeks ago, with the last photo being the one I used for my header.  On to the story...

One delivery came, below:  a box of mechanic's tools!  The was the second of three separate shipments.  Thomas was at tech school at this time, so missed the delivery.  The boxes were extremely heavy, so I had the UPS driver get this box into the foyer.  I slid it enough to get the door closed, then let Thomas deal with it when he returned home.

Once he had the two delivered boxes of tools, he just lacked the tool box.  Below, he was home for that delivery, and was as excited as a 20-year-old can get!

Out the front door he flew...

...to greet the UPS driver for this delivery.  (I shot most of these photos through the open garage door, mind you!!)

The driver brought out the box on a crate--the box was super heavy!

Here is my final photo below, and the one I used for my header.  He's positioning the box just so in our garage, and his goal is to get it organized with all his tools.  He has since graduated (October 14) from auto/diesel tech school, and is in the midst of his employment search.

I shot the above photo through the door from the house into the garage, and Thomas is standing in the open garage door area--so this photo is through two doors!

Weekly Header Challenge -- Favorite Animal

Theme ~ Favorite Animal

Chosen by Tom.

When it comes to photography, I have lots of favorite animals.  They're usually ones I can get really good pictures of!  My favorite one this year is the praying mantis.  I accidentally watered this fierce little guy in my green beans late this summer.  Here's the full, uncropped image.

Here he is, with all the water droplets...

Besides the praying mantis, I love birds.  I captured this osprey in flight (and trying to catch a fish!) at Lake Bonaparte this summer!

Here's another osprey--or maybe the same one--with its catch, flying away.

I absolutely love loons, especially their haunting birdsong.

This red tailed hawk was in my backyard!  I love these birds.

I spotted this downy woodpecker tap-tap-tapping away in the dead tree on the other side of my back yard fence...

And, there's always dogs.  I love man's best friend!

Weekly Header Challenge -- Colors

It's time for the Weekly Header Challenge!

Theme ~ Colors

Chosen by Kathy.

For Colors, I naturally thought of autumn colors.  I chose this image below for my header:

I took it yesterday at The Morton Arboretum; the colors were really starting to show themselves.  I'll have to go back later this week and hope there are still brilliant colors left.

To give you an idea, here's how the color changed in a week:

October 18.

October 24.

Here are my favorite images from my walk at the Arboretum.  This one is from last week...

And these are from yesterday's amble through the woods...
