March Ice

Now that it feels like spring, I feel much better about sharing 2013-14 winter images!

Here are some I took while out and about our yard, wandering to see what I could capture.

After shooting with my 100mm macro lens, I looked up and got a bigger picture of just how pretty ice can be!  Look at this tree!  Sparkly with the hope of spring!

Theme ~ The Shape of Art

This week's theme could have gone several ways for me.  But, after fighting with my once-beloved editing software for two hours to upload images, I was happy to have anything at all this morning.  :/

I took the simplest route, opting for shapes--rectangles, squares, circles, triangles.  They can be found everywhere, in both nature and in man-made things.  Below is the full image from my header, with all its different shapes of buildings:

Downtown Chicago, at sunset on a September evening.

And a star!  (Hey, it has five points.)

Outside that door's window are our winter icicles, preventing a back-door escape!

On a spring photo session recon (scouting out a location), I started to notice all the shadows cast by some leafless trees.  This image below was my favorite.

I see the "V," but I also see, on the right, a pregnant ballerina dancing.  What do you see?

Theme ~ Cold

It has certainly been cold this winter!  And I have certainly been cold.  There's no more appropriate theme for this week, especially as I'm typing this while two sons are out shoveling the driveway, and Fernando is fighting snowstorm traffic to get another to the train station for his trip downtown to UIC.

I chose the below image for my header.  I took this one through a car window while out running errands.  I was not driving.  :)

About 15 minutes before the above picture, I convinced my driver to stop along the road to get a scenic shot of the white-encrusted landscape from the ice storm the night before.

After the Snowfall

The snowfall a few days ago was absolutely beautiful--a peaceful, gentle snowfall with big, fat flakes.  The next day, I went back out for some "after" images.  I simply had to capture that pine tree with its boughs weighed down with white.

Then, the day after that, I went back outside.  The sun was shining, and since this was a March snowfall, things were melting pretty quickly.  I tried to capture the droplets of water dripping from the grill.

My veggie garden looked so peaceful and still, all the beds covered with blankets for a little while longer.

In just one day, much the the snow-laden boughs were clear, the white stuff either having fallen to the ground or been melted by the sun.

Back to our patio and the icicles hanging from the patio table.

My veggie garden beds really did look like beds, pillows and all!

I climbed up to the pool's deck to capture as much as I could of the beds.  This is when I really miss my 17-85mm lens.  I hope to have it fixed pretty soon, then I'll be back in business.

The snow melted away within a few days, but it's now cold enough for another snow.  I am longing for spring at this point.  :)
