Thanksgiving Week

Here are some photographic highlights from our wonderful Thanksgiving week.

Baking in the kitchen with Jacob produced some interesting photographic moments.

Foggy morning before Thanksgiving.

We celebrated Thanksgiving at my parents' new home...

My mom makes everything special, from the decorations at the front door to the dining room table.

Her pretty china plates.

We always overdo it on dessert!

Project 2012 -- Week 47

Project 2012 -- Week 47
November 18-24

Welcome to my Project 2012 weekly post!  This is my time to look back over the past week,
choose seven favorite images I've taken, and share them here with you.
If you have a project you're working on, please leave a comment
so I can visit your blog and see what you're up to!

Thanksgiving week is a huge photo producer in my world, and this year was even bigger.  Jacob came home from school, we baked and cooked together, our family celebrated Thanksgiving, we went Christmas-tree-hunting with friends, and finally ended the week with a little house decorating.

We started the week with a get-together so that Jacob could spend the afternoon after church with his buddies.  This is how they started their afternoon:

[323] Boys will be boys

Jacob also helped me bake pies all afternoon Tuesday.  I glanced over at one point to see this:

The day before Thanksgiving looked like this:

Here's one image I took on Thanksgiving day, at my parents' new home.

Our friends have invited us for three years now to go up to Wisconsin with them to cut down our own Christmas tree.  We have so much fun together!

[327] Christmas tree farm

Tree-cutting was short this year due to the 18-degree temps (with wind chill).  We warmed up in the car, though, on the way to the Mouse House!

I took the below shot through my car window on the way home.  The sun was so pretty shining through the clouds!

You may recall that my 17-55mm lens went kaput last week.  All of the images I've taken since then have been with my 50mm lens.  Using one fixed lens has been extremely challenging, and sometimes frustrating, but mostly rewarding.  I've really been stretched, but I'm also desperately trying to figure out how to afford a new lens before Christmas--there are so many picture-taking opportunities coming up!

Project 2012 -- Week 2

Project 2012
Week 2 -- January 8-14

My favorite photos

It's great when you can run outside in January in a jacket and snap some shots of the early morning frost.  The sun kept peeking out from the clouds, and I kept trying to catch it as I found some autumn leaves stuck in the grass.  The below leaf stayed still enough for me to capture it, and the sun also cooperated for several seconds.  I used my 100mm macro lens at f4.5, but in the editing room I wished I had increased the f-stop to obtain more clarity on the crystals along the leaf's edge.  I still like how the frost looks along the veins.

I love washing dishes.  There is a spiritual truth remembered with every dishload of dirty dishes!  I love getting dirty dishes washed, and seeing the shine as I rinse off the soap.  I'm sure if I were a dish I wouldn't like it--I wouldn't like being dirty, either--nor would I like the stinging soap in my eyes.  But once the dish is rinsed (boy, that water is hot!) and placed in the drain, it dries to a nice, clean shine and is pretty to look at again.  Oh, wait, sorry!  I digressed--back to the below photo...

As I was washing dishes this particular evening, I placed the soapy dishes on the counter to my left, then rinsing off several at a time.  I washed and placed the bowl, then washed and stuck the fork in the bowl.  When I looked over, the fork was slowly bobbing up and down, perfectly balanced.  So of course I grabbed my camera!

[10] Perfect balance

Who ever would have guessed that we would be playing Frisbee in the middle of January?!?  I love the setting sun and the sun flare in this shot as my boys throw the Frisbee around.

[11] January Frisbee

Later, as the sun set, I was hoping for a sunset similar to this one.  I was in the same spot, too!  But the clouds disappeared along with the sun, and I was left with a rather mundane sunset.  (All sunsets are beautiful.)  When I turned toward the east, I saw wispy clouds turning purple behind this tree.

[12] Tree silhouette

The day after we played at the park, we got our first measurable snow!  I ran out in it to take a fence row shot.  I used my 100mm macro again, at f8.  I had to set the ISO to 400 to get a halfway decent shutter speed (1/200 sec.) so I could hand-hold my Ellie.

[13] Snow on fence

Aaaaand, the next day, it was back to a typical Chicagoland morning in January, grabbing shovels to dig out the driveway.  Danny single-handedly shoveled the whole thing, too!

I hope you got some good shots this past week.  I can't wait to see them!

A Spot of Tea

I shot a few macro images of my friend's tea cups for another project I was working on.  Which one is your favorite?

365 Project -- #302-308

This is the time in my week when I look back at the images I've captured
throughout the previous week, and choose my seven favorites.
These seven--one for each day of the week--are featured below.

October 29 - November 4

A couple of lost images.  Yummy food.  A tea party.  A Bible and some music.  And a teenager with a driver's license.  My images from last week run the gamut!

I discovered these two "lost" images when I was going through my Lightroom "October" album.  The honeybee shots turned out great, and this one below is my favorite.

[302] Honeybee on dandelion

The sun turned the leaves on this tree to gold.  It was really cool framed in my window.

 [303] Through an autumn window

For a family get-together, we decided on "Breakfast at Dinner."  My sister-in-law Charlotte made the below, which were the hit of the evening.

 [304] Maple-brown butter glazed waffles

I took the below for a past and future client; I shot their Mother/Daughter Encouragement Weekend this past year, and I get to fly out to Georgia next February to shoot next year's event!  (I'm so very excited about it.)  They needed some teacup images to promote next year's mother/daughter event, and I was happy to oblige them.  I love tea.  :)

 [305] Rose teacup

My "son" Caleb was thumbing through Proverbs, and I got this shot.  (I called him "son" one day, and he started calling me "Mom."  Kinda nice.)

 [306] Proverbs

And one potential client!  This talented young man is looking forward to a career in music.  I had fun taking these images and experimenting with the light (which was very dim, yuck).  Hopefully the images I captured will give him a good idea of what I can offer.  Although I must say--I can't wait to hold a session with him (and the rest of his musical group) outdoors in good light!

 [307] Sing your heart out

Another one leaves the nest...in our Suburban.  Danny got his driver's license, and two hours later he drove off to class.  I can't tell you how freeing it is, even after just a few days, that I don't have to drive him to college classes any more.  I get to be home and spend more time with Thomas and Joseph.  I am thrilled to be a full-time at-home mom again!

[308] Another one drives away

And so ends my week of images.  Hope you captured some fine memories, too!

Shoot the Dishes

~My photo gallery~  Christine Anne at Smugmug  ~My photo gallery~

Since my last post was about food photography, I figured I'd post about the dishes that hold the food!  Over at  my family blog, I participate in a weekly meme called Tea Talk.  I was inspired by other ladies to photograph my (and others') teacups.

Love my Gibson everyday china!

Here are a few of my favorites.

 Tea at Lori's house!

2010 In Review -- No People in These Shots!

~My website~  Christine Anne Photography  ~My website~

I have loved my venture into the blogging world this year!  I used to keep a journal, in which I wrote almost every day.  With the arrival of my babies, I gradually got away from keeping those journals.  I'm so glad I have had the opportunity to return to my journal-writing roots!  And it's even easier on the computer.  Typing 95+ words per minute helps a lot, too.  :)

One thing that I'm so thankful to the Lord for is photojournalism.  With my digital camera, telling stories with photos has become a snap, and I think it makes the story so much more interesting.  I am, after all, a visual person, so photographs bring stories to life for me.  Enjoy just a few of these photographs, taken mostly for illustrations in my blogs throughout the year.

One of my first food shots, and an all-time favorite

Thanksgiving pie--more whipped cream than pie?!

Okay, I personally just gained five pounds.  How about some non-food images?

OK, so there are people in this one--the guys carrying the tree to the car

A Happy New Year to you!!
