Theme ~ A New Beginning

Chosen by Mac.

After a long break, we Headbangers are back!  I'm glad I got out this past week to take some pictures; my camera has sat for quite some time and I really needed to get back out shooting.  To celebrate new beginnings--the new beginning that spring brings--here is the image I used for this week’s theme:

Daffodils in vertical form:

Here are some other signs of a new beginning...

Sun on leaf edge.

Lenten rose.

Blue catmint.

All these were taken on a quick walk at The Morton Arboretum.  I hope you enjoyed this glimpse into spring and the new colorful world of spring!

Theme ~ Colors

Chosen by Kathy.

For Colors, I naturally thought of autumn colors.  I chose this image below for my header:

I took it yesterday at The Morton Arboretum; the colors were really starting to show themselves.  I'll have to go back later this week and hope there are still brilliant colors left.

To give you an idea, here's how the color changed in a week:

October 18.

October 24.

Here are my favorite images from my walk at the Arboretum.  This one is from last week...

And these are from yesterday's amble through the woods...

Thank you, Lew, for a perfect theme this week!  I'm featuring photos taken at The Morton Arboretum, which is alive with springtime color.  Here is the image I used for my header.

Enjoy spring at the Arboretum!

Theme ~ Textures

Chosen by me.

Due to a crazy-busy week, I'm extremely late posting this week's Header Challenge.  Here are my images showing textures.

Abstract -- watercolor wetlands.

Abstract -- Water reflections.

Leaf edges.

 Tree bark.

 Soft and moist.

I love how a one-dimension image can show not only depth and perspective, but texture as well.  These were just a few of my favorites.

Weekly Header Challenge -- Looking Down

It's time for the Weekly Header Challenge!

Theme ~ Looking Down

Chosen by Tom.

I smiled when I read the theme for this week, because it reminded me of a line from the movie Winnie the Pooh.  Pooh is walking along with Piglet, explaining that "jag-u-lars call out 'Halloooooo!' and when you look up, they drop on you."  Piglet responds, "I'm looking d-down, P-p-p-pooh!"  Since our family is well-versed in movie lines, we are fond of often quoting Piglet's line.

Here is the image I chose for my header.  I took this just a couple days ago; I arranged everything on my pretty china and placed it on the floor.  I used my macro lens to capture the "looking down" shot.

Oolong tea, Irish soda bread, honey-cinnamon butter.

On to the rest of my picks for Looking Down!!

I've been traveling/working alongside Fernando for a few months, so I've had some great opportunities for taking interesting pictures outside my normal routine.  Some of them are featured below.  Enjoy!

End of February, Akron, OH hotel room, looking down out of the window.
I love the diagonal lines formed with the sidewalk and the cars.  I don't like the snow.

Looking down into the lobby from our hotel in Bowling Green, KY.

Early morning Bible reading, with a cup of English breakfast tea.

Looking down at my bowl of tortellini & spinach soup, a family favorite.

All the nature images were taken at the Morton Arboretum a few weeks ago on a very chilly afternoon.

Tree roots along Lake Marmo, at the Morton Arboretum.

Water drain hole on Lake Marmo.

I've been fermenting vegetables!

Forest floor, west side, Morton Arboretum.

Daffodils getting ready to bloom!

Scilla or other ground cover.

I saved my favorite image for last.  I was standing on a little footbridge, and shot down looking into the brook below.  There were little orange buds from the tree, plus a few leaves, floating on the water.  The reflection of the tree branches is there, too, making this a beautiful abstract image.  It looks autumn-like with the orange color.  I just love this shot!

Theme ~ Signs of Spring

Chosen by Lew.

Hot off the press!  I took these SIGNS OF SPRING this afternoon.  I thought there might be some spring-y-ness at the Morton Arboretum, and a young lady friend of mine was up for a walk, so we spent an hour and a half freezing our fingers off together (47 degrees F on the thermometer, but a stiff wind made it feel frigid!), walking and snapping, snapping and walking, oohing and aahing over every little (or huge) sign that spring is on its way.

Brought to you, fresh and lovely and all things spring, first off is the image I used for my header.

Enjoy the rest of these, my featured images from a cold day's walk and a promise of warmth and color and spring!

Ground-growing scilla.

Downy woodpecker.

Red maple buds.

Two little pink magnolia trees were in bloom!  I had to shoot up into the sun, so I got creative with the images.

One small field of daffodils was making every effort to burst forth in yellow!

Crocuses peeking up through the leaves.

Red Japanese anemone popping up among some blue scilla.

White forsythia.

Fuzzy buds on the magnolia tree.

Finally, I leave you with these fitting images, of lenten roses, appropriate for this season before Easter Sunday.

It may not feel like it outside, but spring is here!
