Theme ~ Far Far Away

Chosen by Kathy.

After a two-week break for us headbangers, we're back with a new year and a new theme.  My first thought upon seeing the theme was Paris, but I've used lots of photos from there, and it was also a while ago.  The most recent "far away" place I've been is California, so I thought I'd feature this image, which was taken at sunset at my sister-in-law's home.  In silhouette, with the palm tree branches gently swaying, it looks like an exotic place far away from wintry Chicago.

You may remember from a few weeks ago my header image from Huntington Beach, California; here is a "re-post" sunset image from that far-away locale.

While in far-away California, we had the chance to visit and connect with many family members.

The hibiscus flower is definitely not from around here; another "far far away" flower!

Here is our "far far away" family, with a photo of my aunt held by her granddaughter, and many family members in front of her home.

That's it from far far away!

Theme ~ Last Week's Sky

Chosen by Lew.

This was almost last week's sky.  I haven't had time to pick up my camera the past week or so, but I definitely brought it on our unexpected trip to California for a family member's funeral.  On our one free afternoon, Fernando decided to head to Huntington Beach; it was in the 70s and sunny, a perfect afternoon for a nap.  And, a perfect evening for a beautiful sunset, complete with surfer silhouettes!  Here is my header, uncropped:

And, for your sky-viewing enjoyment, here are the other pictures I took that afternoon as the sun made its way down.

Theme ~ Waves

Chosen by Mac.

This week, I went with the literal interpretation on the theme--actual waves, as in ocean waves.  I hope you all were more creative!  Here's my header shot, below.  I kept it cropped just like a header, since the horizontal wave lends itself to that format.  I love the contrast of the breaking wave on the left, and the curled, smooth part on the right.

A few days later, the waves looked like this.

And after another day, when all the seaweed was kicked up, they looked like this.

These images were all taken on our 2011 trip to Florida to stay with friends--they have a timeshare at Disney, and we all stayed together in a huge beach cottage at Vero Beach.  Here was my first wave image of our week-long trip:

Early Monday morning, and all those people, you may ask.  Here's why, below.  The final launch of the Space Shuttle Endeavor!

Wave close-up.

Friends and family enjoying the waves!

The waves subside a lot some nights, and I found myself on the deck of our cottage or on the beach almost every night, just enjoying the colors and sounds of the Atlantic Ocean.

How Blessed!

For the LORD God is a sun and shield;
No good thing does He withhold from those who walk uprightly.
O LORD of hosts,
How blessed is the man who trusts in You!

365 Project -- #134-140

Well, we're home.  A little over a week ago, we left a cool, breezy Chicago and headed south.  And east.  More south, though.  Down, down, down, to warmer climes, 80s and sunny.  Here is a smidgen of an idea of our vacation.

We arrived in Vero Beach to meet our friends with whom we spent the week.  Our dinner at Captain Hiram's was super-yummy; the view from their balcony is below.  Nice view.

I finally got to see the Atlantic Ocean!  We moved away from the ocean when I was 11, and I was back only once.  I got to spend the entire week there this time.

[135] May 15 -- Atlantic wave line

Monday morning.  8:56 a.m.  It was truly surprising how quickly Endeavor shot up into the sky.  Within minutes, she was out of view.  Then several minutes later, we heard the sound (we were about an hour away from Kennedy Space Center).

[136] May 16 -- Endeavor blasts off

The water was warm, inviting us to come on in and play.

[137] May 17 -- Wave action

Fernando and I had a date night, a slow evening walk on the beach at our resort.  Of course Ellie came with us!  These are my footprints, just before they were washed away.

 [138] May 18 -- Seashore footprints

Sunsets were gorgeous, and we weren't even facing west!  Below, I was looking north up the coast.

[139] May 19 -- Sunset along Vero Beach

Though I took several nice macros of flowers, I chose the below image since I love the back lighting and how it illumines the berries on the bush.

[140] May 20 -- Sunlit berries

Next week, I'll round out my vacation with a few more shots from Florida, and then it's back to the Prairie State!

12th Street Beach

Looking for shells

What wonderful timing the Lord has!  I received my dear Ellie back from the repair shop just in time to take her downtown Chicago to celebrate Elliot's baptism.  It had been so long since I held her that I almost didn't know what to do!  Almost.  I quickly got over it.  :)

So, here are a few moments I captured from an afternoon at Lake Michigan.

Look what I found!

Graceful

Sandy feet

Skipping a rock

Talking with Elliot

Sweetheart

Boy, cup, sand

Tina-Grace

Treasure hunting

Mother and daughter

Beautiful

Sailboats and seagulls

Peninsula

Beach to my back
