Spring Wedding

I am not a wedding photographer.

I always make sure I say that when I post wedding pictures.  Having said that, however, I do love event photography--capturing the various things all happening around me.  Whether I'm a participant who happens to have brought her camera, or the actual event photographer, I have fun either way!  Enjoy these few images from a recent wedding we attended.

FYI--All these images were taken using my "kit" lens, a 17-85mm telephoto.  It's a very basic Canon lens, but still produces nice images.  A lower F-stop and a sharper image and this would be my go-to lens for practically everything.  But of course, that would cost me, and so I continue to use this lens.  :)

There's something about little girls at weddings--they're all dressed up and are beaming with prettiness and excitement.

Some of the adults had to make sure the bubbles worked before the couple exited the church.  :)

It was so hard to capture the happy couple with all those bubbles floating everywhere!

Okay--I seriously got lucky.  I almost deleted the below image right from the camera, without even downloading.  I thought it was ruined.  I'm so glad I didn't.  I think it's just cool that I captured Rosalinda's face in that bubble!

This last photo was pretty contrast-y, but really lent itself well to a black and white image.  I love how it turned out.

Hearth and Home

I think it's a wonderful way to end the year--with images from a photo shoot of a couple in love.  I'm not talking mushy and feely-good (though that still happens).  I'm talking long term here, the long haul, the complete journey.

I'm usually ready to grab my gear and go at a moment's notice, which is a good thing because this session happened in almost literally a moment--one phone call and I grabbed Ellie and my things and drove off.

I love this couple.  They have a rather major anniversary coming up in half a year, and I think I'll end up being the planner and coordinator (and photographer!) for it.  Yes--I'm related to them.  :)

You Can't Skate Through Life...

...but you can have a party with them!  (Roller skates, that is...)

What fun to shoot a roller skating party--especially a surprise one!  Yes, I got on skates.  No, I did not shoot while on skates; Ellie is too important for me to risk it.  ;)  Either way, shooting this event was a blast, and a challenge.  Think tons of people, lots of action--the fun part.  Then think low light, or next-to-nothing light--the challenging part.  Both ways, it was the highlight of my week.

The initial surprise

Tressey's husband Marc scored big-time with the surprise!

Some of us over-40 folks needed a lot of help...

Marc shared memories of and sentiments to his beloved wife

Then, like a first dance, Marc and Tressey took a skate around the rink a few times...

...which then inspired other couples to get back out onto the rink.

There was a cake--

and a speech--

--and lots of fellowship, games, and fun.

Happy birthday, Tressey!!

Milestone -- 50!

Fifty years is a great milestone in a person's life.  Many people reach this age and have a huge celebration.  Even more interesting is when two people reach 50 years on the same day.  What's most amazing about this, however, is not that they reached 50 years of age.  This beloved couple reached 50 years of marriage.

Seeing that this Godly man ministers to us (and our church) as one of our teaching elders, we had the privilege of sharing in their celebration with their children and their children's children, all of whom serve the Lord.  This is the fruition of what we have been working for all these years with our own children.  It was a powerful thing to see the results of their hard work and what the Lord can also do in my own family.  I'm excited.  :)

Enjoy these moments from their celebration.

Family: Fun and Fellowship

I'd like you to meet a really special family.  Dad is a well-spoken man who loves a good joke--he can give as well as he can take--but who also has a heart to encourage others.  Mom is a Type-A personality, always wanting to do, and a kindred sister in Christ.  Their boys are a mixture of both their personalities, which makes their home an incredibly fun and busy place to spend an afternoon or evening.  Fun is a great word to describe what happens when we get together, but fellowship is an even better word to describe how the Lord is glorified through this amazing family.

Enjoy Marc and Tressey and their boys.  Oh, and say:  tree - see.  There, you got it.  :)

Sometimes I made the boys crack up.  It was a riot when they did, and made for some interesting photos.  :)

And one of my favorites:

Finally, this is what happens when I bring my whole family to a photo shoot.

Yep.  Fun and fellowship.
