Theme ~ Spare Time

Chosen by Craver.

One of our Headbangers, Kathy, said:  "Spare time?  What's that??"  I agreed with her, and wondered what images I could use to depict what I do in my spare time.  But then a simple solution hit me, so I rolled with it.  Here's my Spare Time header image:

Joseph gets a spare!

It was time to go way back in my photo archives (2011) to find some bowling pictures I took at one of our weekly outings with my parents.

Joseph rolling his green ball.

That's my dad below--he was 79 then, and he still bowls today at (almost) 83!

Danny mid-stride.

Thomas' smooth form.

Thomas bowls backwards--I forget what term my Dad used.  Even though Thomas is right-handed, he throws the ball toward the left, it spins, then curves back into the pins.  He was really good at it, for a kid with no lessons and no clue how to bowl, either!

What do you do in your spare time??

Christine

    1. Thanks, Mac! We haven't played in a few years, but my parents are still active with it. It really is a fun game to play, even when you're not that good at it. :)

  2. Interesting bowling technique there by Thomas. This is the first I've heard of it, so I looked it up. I think the inverted throw is called a reverse hook, also known as a back-up ball delivery.

Also, that's a smart composition in that same photo. You captured Thomas' position so that it lines up very neatly with the painted wall, so that the fore and background tie in together perfectly!

    1. That's it! My dad used the term "back-up ball" to describe it. Thanks for the research; for the life of me, I couldn't think of the therm. And thanks for your comments on the photo of Thomas--more luck than deliberate lining up. I did try to time it to get him at the end of his stance, since he always followed through with his arm extended (like you're supposed to!).

  4. Fun take on the theme Christine, nice spare. I don't bowl anymore, darned arthritis. I did bowl a game with no spares and a 290 with one spare. I did post late.
